Where on Campus is my URI 101 Mentor

Mentors

Materials:

List of questions, and answers

Time:

10-15 minutes, or spend 3-5 minutes at the beginning of each class

Objective:

To help students link buildings to the services and offices within them.

Instructions:

Remember the show and game “Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?” This activity is a spin off of that, also a bit like I Spy.

To explain let me start with an answer…if your goal is for the student to answer the memorial union your “question” may be… “I just ate lunch, picked up my mail, and signed up to join a student group all in the same building, where am I?” Another example is…”After I meet with my advisor and look into joining the Jumpstart program, I need to go upstairs and get help with my Sociology class, where am I?” (The answer would be Roosevelt hall)  You could also do sequential locations, for example… “I’m leaving my dorm that is above a dining hall, going to meet with my Psychology Professor, and then going to get a burrito, where am I?” (Butterfield, Chaffee, the emporium/Caliente)

The possibilities are endless, be creative and try to remember your students, their interests, their major, etc. Have fun with it!
