Math Placement Scores

All math courses at URI will have a small percent of the grade based on having completed the assessment, but will not use the score given in the assessment as part of the course grade.

Where does my score appear?

After completing the Math Placement Assessment, you will be given a percentage score on each portion of the exam. Note that there are three parts, each part requiring a 70% or better on the previous part to advance to the next part. You can log-in again via the same access link for which you took the exam at:
http://www.uri.edu/orientation/math. Click on "Access the Placement System" link at the bottom of the page.

What does my score mean?

Course descriptions and minimum scores are given
here. Your score will be used as an advising tool, not for mandatory placement. However, we want you to succeed in the math class that you enroll in this fall. Success in the class is highly dependent on your requisite knowledge. Math Placement scores are highly accurate in predicting that success and should be regarded as strong indicators for proper placement.

What if I do not obtain the recommended minimum score for the class I wish to take?

You can take advantage of the individualized Study Plan built into the MyMathTest system. When you complete the initial assessment, your results will determine a recommended `Study Plan'. This study plan serves as a Syllabus for a mini course. Here you will have access to video explanations, step by step solutions to problems, and many practice problems. In order to progress through the `Study Plan' you must `Master' the topics listed by completing practice problems in MyMathTest. Once you have completed your `Study Plan' you will be able to take the Math Placement test a second time.

The Study Plan can be accessed via the same method you accessed the placement exam, namely through http://www.uri.edu/orientation/math. Click on "Access the Placement System" at the bottom of the page. Once you begin to use the Study Plan, it is available to you for 6 weeks.

Course descriptions and minimum scores are given here.
