GRADUATE ASSISTANTS UNITED (URI/AAUP)
UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND
The GAU Executive Committee has established the GAU Annual Grant
Fund to support the growing financial needs of graduate
assistants in their endeavor for excellence at the University of Rhode Island.
Application due dates will be the 1st of
December and the 1st of May each year.
Assistants may apply for funding for travel or events that have yet to occur,
and funding awarded, however money will not be disbursed until receipts are
provided to the GAU.
Funding is available for reimbursement of expenses directly
related to the presentation papers or
research, delivery of poster sessions, performance or exhibition of creative
work, or other pursuits of a professional or academic nature. Funding
awards are intended to help cover registration
fees, travel, accommodations, the purchase or acquisition of necessary supplies
or equipment, or other related expenses.
The Finance Committee shall have
the responsibility of reviewing applications and recommending to the Executive
Committee the amount of funds to be distributed. Applicants
may be asked to attend a regular GAU meeting or speak with members of the
executive committee in order to justify and/or clarify funding requests. All
decisions regarding funding will be at the discretion of the executive
committee. In no case shall the
funds awarded exceed 50% of the applicantÕs total expenditure.
Applicants must complete the form below and attach receipts
as well as any additional documents requested. Additionally, applicants must
notify the GAU of any additional sources from whom requests for funding have
been or will be made, as well as the amounts awarded. Completed applications
must be sent to the GAU office at 302
Roosevelt Hall or faxed to (401) 874-5147.
Awards must be used within
six months of disbursal. The GAU executive committee reserves the right to
withhold funds until any additional documentation requested by the GAU has been
