An extremely important position within the GAU is that of a Steward. A Steward is a representative of his/her department who becomes a liaison of the department with the GAU Executive Committee. The Steward regularly attends GAU meetings and funnels information to department colleagues. The Steward is also responsible for bringing departmental issues and events to the executive committee for consideration and possible dissemination to the general graduate assistants list. A stipend is given to the Steward if a percentage of meetings have been attended.
