GAU By-Laws Change Since adopting the GAU By-Laws at a General Membership meeting in September of 2002, the GAU has evolved into an organization a little differently than originally envisioned. What was thought to be laws that would allow the GAU to grow as an organization, have turned into constraints that affect the transition from one executive committee to the next. President Ashmankas recognized this difficulty and commissioned a committee to review the by-laws and recommend changes to the Executive Committee that would enable the GAU to function more efficiently as a graduate assistants organization. The committee has met that task and the Executive Committee now needs to institute those changes. The process for changing the Constitution or By-Laws is two step. First, the proposed changes need to be presented at a general membership meeting and then, secondly, voted on at the next scheduled general membership meeting. Thus, at the April 25, 2007 general membership meeting, those graduate assistants in attendance will have the opportunity to ask questions about the changes. The Fall 2008 general membership meeting attendees will vote on the changes. Please review the proposed changes, in red, at the By-Laws link from the Home page prior to the meeting. If you have any questions, please email the GAU and your question will be forwarded to the Chair of the committee, Dom Murgo. |
