2009-10 GAU Election Nominations 2009-2010 GAU Election Nominees The following Graduate Assistants have been nominated for the positions indicated and they will appear on the ballot at the General Membership Meeting being held on April 23, 2009 from 5-7:3-PM at the University Club. President Amy Maas Next year will be my fourth year as a graduate student at the University of Rhode Island, working towards my PhD in Biology under the advisement of Dr. Brad Seibel. It will also be my fourth year as part of the Graduate Assistants United organization. I served as a steward my first year, became a member-at-large my second and have held the position of both Vice-President and President during the past year. It would be my honor and pleasure to continue to serve as President of the GAU working to uphold the contract, negotiate grievances, and voice the concerns of the graduate population. Vice President Courtney Schmidt I am a PhD student at the Graduate School of Oceanography in Biological Oceanography. I havs been active with GAU for one year now holding two positions: Member-at-Large for fall '08 semester and Acting-Vice President for spring '09 semester. I also serve on the Membership Committee, which looks for ways to increase membership numbers for the GAU. Treasurer Insley Haciski I'm finishing my second year as a PhD student in Biological Sciences in Professor Jackie Webb's lab. I study the development of the lateral line system in elasmobranchs, specifically the skate and the chain catshark. This is my second year involved with the GAU. Last year, I was a steward to my department, and this year I was treasurer. Steven Marchand I am a second year Ph.D. student in the department of English Language & Literature. I have served as a Member at Large on the GAU Executive Committee since Spring of 2008, and I was the director of URI's most recent interdisciplinary graduate student conference, "Bodies in Motion," the largest and most well attended to date. Secretary Jack Szczepanski My name is John Szczepanski though many of you know me as Jack. I would like to run for Secretary of GAU for the 2009-10 term. I have been secretary for the past year and also the Vice President of the GSA. I like to think in being involved with the executive boards of both organizations helps to bring unity and more opportunities to all graduate students, or at least as many as possible. Academically, I am working on a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences studying the differences in feeding habits of skates and stingrays that live in Delaware Bay and Narragansett Bay. In my spare time, I like to TA for Bio121 (Human anatomy), Bio101 (Intro to Biology), and Bio106 (Biology for Daily Living). |
