Welcome to University College

What is University College?

University College and Special Academic Programs serves as the academic home to all first and second year students, and continues to support students throughout their college career through many programs offering academic support services. While we do not grant degrees, our purpose is to help you to make good decisions for your college career. So whether you have a major or not, we will help you to find a pathway and be a successful learner.

University College is where innovations for serving students take place, whether these be academic learning communities, first-year seminars, service learning, peer mentoring, advising, internships or international education. We help students become engaged in the activities that will prepare them to be satisfied and successful during and after college. It is our responsibility as well to understand the changing student population, to assess student needs and strengths, and to communicate this information to the university community. Our commitment to academic excellence is demonstrated through our service to students and to the academic colleges from which students will ultimately graduate.

Our Mission Statement

We welcome students through our orientation programs for new students and transfer students. We extend these programs in our first year seminar courses in which students learn about the University resources and learning strategies for college success.

We support students through comprehensive academic advising, including programs for special populations such as honors students, probationary students, student athletes, and students undecided in their choice of major. Our many services through the Academic Enhancement Center include free tutoring, group study, supplemental instruction, and workshops on academic skill development.

We challenge students' development through programs in international education, study abroad, experiential learning, internships and community service. We invite students to become mentors to their peers, "learning by doing" in all areas including working with freshmen seminar classes, helping to advise, tutoring or helping with service activities.

Getting involved is the key to success in college, and we will welcome, support and challenge your doing so.
