September 6 (MEET IN ADAMS 005) - First Day of Class: Intro, Icebreakers, Syllabus,  & Sandra Pearlman (Learning Assistance Network) "Strategies for Success". 

READINGS:  Module 1  "From High School to College", "Webmail"

ASSIGNMENT: Due 8:00am, Tuesday, September 11: Download the following two forms and complete them.
1. Semester Planner: Using your syllabi from your Fall 2000 classes and your team's competition schedule, fill out a semester planner that indicates when you have exams scheduled, assignments or projects due, and your travel/competition schedule. Highlight conflicts.
2. Weekly Planner: Complete a weekly planner, indicating when you have classes, practices, team meetings, study table, and other regular appointments.
3. Webmail:  Before 8:00am, Tuesday September 12, you must activate your URI webmail account and send an email to your instructor at miscott@uri.edu

September 11 (MEET IN ADAMS 005) - Study Skills
QUIZ: Turn in Semester Planner and Weekly Planner before 8:05am.

READINGS: Module 5 "Strategies for Success", "Time Management"

ASSIGNMENT: Due 8:00am, Thursday, September 13
1. Internet Scavenger Hunt: Download this form and find the answers!
2. Substance Abuse Survey:  Fill out the online survey before the Health and Safety presentation scheduled for your class on September 13. Complete the survey and your answers will be forwarded to a database.  On the confirmation page, which is not linked to your responses in any way, fill out your name and their class section.  When you complete the confirmation page, I will get an email noting that you have done so.

September 13 (MEET IN ATRIUM II, MEMORIAL UNION) - Health & Safety Presentation
QUIZ: Turn in Internet Scavenger Hunt and complete the Substance Abuse Survey before 8:05am.

READINGS: Module 6 "The College Culture: Does it Encourage Drug Abuse", "Information on Alcohol and Other Drugs", "Alcohol Exercise", "A Mother's Story"

ASSIGNMENT:  Complete questionnaire in Module 6: " Learning Styles for College" and print out your results

September 18  (MEET IN ADAMS 005) - Learning Styles

September 18  (MEET IN ADAMS 005) - "Nutrition for the College Athlete" by Sue Ash

ASSIGNMENT (Due by 8:00am Tuesday, September 25):  Journal response to Sue Ash's "Nutrition for the College Athlete" presentation.  A journal response is reflective writing that shows you've thought about the assigned subject.  For the purposes of this class, a journal response requires a minimum of three paragraphs (each paragraph must contain a minimum of three sentences).  The first paragraph should describe the speaker and the major topic of discussion.  You should then write a paragraph each about two things that you learned from the presentation or two things that you found interesting and how they apply to you.

September 24, 7:00pm  (MEET IN KEANEY GYM) - Robin Sawyer Presentation (MUST ATTEND); check in with your mentors near the training room following the conclusion of the presentation.
