Faculty and Staff

The purpose of the Early Alert program is to identify and effectively assist students that are having challenges transitioning to URI. We would appreciate your concern and help by referring students to our office that may be showing “at risk” behaviors. Some examples of “at risk” behavior are:

  • Excessive absences
  • Lack of participation in classroom activities
  • Decline in the quality of work
  • Failure to complete assignments
  • Overt statements regarding difficulties
  • Comments of concern from other students
  • Knowledge of personal or family difficulties (i.e. financial, health, etc)
  • Change in demeanor which might include anxiety, aggression, or depression
  • Repeated inappropriate behavior in or out of the classroom
  • Withdrawal from social activities and interactions
  • Drastic changes in appearance
  • Drug use
  • Excessive use of alcohol

If you know students who may be exhibiting any of the above noted behaviors, or are facing any other issue you feel should be addressed, please complete the online referral form or contact the Early Alert office directly at 874-5527 or amoffatt@mail.uri.edu
