Your student is in the stage of life that can be both exciting and frightening, a time of great happiness and pain, discovery and perhaps some disappointment. You probably have many concerns, some of which you have already discussed with your student, and others you worry about on your own.

Developing an appropriate support system for your student is essential. The Early Alert Office helps students who are struggling academically or socially and are unsure where to look. Students can be referred to the office by faculty/staff, family, peers or themselves via email or online form.

Staff members from our office will meet one-on-one with students to discuss the issues they may be facing and devise a strategy to help make their transition to URI a success. Students may continue to meet with our staff on a regular basis, be referred to other services or offices on campus, or decide that they have received sufficient information after the first meeting. All conversations with students are confidential. We respect the privacy of all of our students and for this reason student conversations will not be divulged to parents or other staff members of the University.

It’s important to be aware of the resources available to your student on campus. Knowing the different activities on campus and the many clubs and organizations can become a valuable tool to help your student become an active member of the URI community.
