Business Academy

The URI Transportation Center hosts a one-week summer Business Academy for high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Transportation to and from a central pick-up point in Providence is available.

Activities include interactive classes, games and exercises, and talks from Rhode Island business leaders. You will get a taste of all the various components managing a company’s supply chain. Supply chain managers have a tremendous impact on the success of an organization. These managers are engaged in every facet of the business process; planning, purchasing, production, transportation, storage & distribution, customer service, and others.

Supervision of all activities will be by the program director, program coordinator, interns, and industry professionals.

Up to 20 rising 9th, 10th and 11th grade students will receive full scholarships to participate in the program. Scholarships will include the following:

  • Tuition
  • Facility Usage
  • Equipment and Supplies
  • Workshops
  • Field Trip Expenses
  • Meals

Requirements

  • Currently in 9th, 10th or 11th grade for the upcoming school year
  • A cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • An interest in business, math, finance, or a transportation related career
  • Written essay and transcript or copy of report card

A brief interview with each applicant will be scheduled by the program director to be held at the applicant’s home or at the URI Transportation Center.
