Sustainable Landscape Architecture
July 20 - 24, 2015
The University of Rhode Island Transportation Center will host a one-week Landscape Architecture/Sustainable Development Academy for high school freshmen who have completed the STI program, sophomores, juniors and seniors.

The focus will be on sustainable development on the campus, in the community and in the city. Students will learn what sustainability means and how it influences the design of communities and landscapes. Participants will visit a range of landscapes, meet designers and installers and learn about the skills and methods that professionals use in the design of sustainable places. There is a growing need for design professionals who are well versed in the methods of sustainable design and installation.

The session will take place from 8:30 am - 4:00 pm. Transportation from a central pick-up point in Providence is available. Supervision will be by the program director, program coordinator, interns and industry professionals.

All costs, including meals, field trips and supplies, will be covered by the Rhode Island Department of Transportationís educational outreach programs and the Federal Highway Administration.
