The after-school program is a partnership between URI and several Rhode Island school districts, which aims to increase the number of disadvantaged students who attain higher education in the fields of math, science, and engineering.
The URITC sponsors the SMILE Middle School Engineering Challenge Weekend program. This event brings together middle school students and teachers from participating school districts. The students work in teams, with mentors from various URI students organizations. URI engineering faculty also mentor and help students to solve engineering problem.
