Middle School Engineering Challenge Weekend
May 2 - 3, 2014
Middle school students from various SMILE clubs across the state met at URI and worked in randomly selected teams to design and build truss bridges. Using primarily chopsticks and glue guns, the teams had to account for any materials used during construction. The bridges were then weighed and tested for load bearing strength. The winning design was based on conformity to the specifications given and a formula that factored in the total cost of materials issued, overall weight of the bridge built, and the amount of weight the bridge held before breaking.
