Engineering Renewable Energy in Guatemala
The URITC’s 2012 Researcher of the Year Vinka Craver has focused much of her research on countries
that lack well-developed water infrastructure, including Mexico and Guatemala. In 2012, she received
the URI Service and Outreach Excellence Award and was honored by the American Society of Civil
Engineering for her paper, “Ceramic Filters Impregnated with Silver Nanoparticles for Point-of-Use
Water Treatment in Rural Guatemala,” published in the Journal of Environmental Engineering.
