URI: A User's Guide

1. Make yourself at home

If you are moving into one of the residence halls on campus, you’ll be greeted by students and staff ready to help. Check out move-in information for detailed schedules and tips on what to bring.

Here’s some tips on how to be a good roomie. And remember, your RAs will be your greatest resource.

2. Find your people

URI is home to 17,000 students—that includes 3,280 first-year students and 500 transfer students, who come from dozens of states and 24 countries. Here you’ll find a vibrant community with students of diverse backgrounds and interests.

Take advantage of O-Week activities, which include RhodyFest on Sunday, Sept. 5, for food, fun, and the chance to meet fellow students representing more than 130 clubs and organizations. Check out the Student Event Advising Office’s Match Program to assess your interests and find the right clubs for you.

3. Play

Campus Recreation offers you a world of fitness and wellness activities, intramural sports, and club sports at some of the region’s top athletic facilities, including the Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness CenterKeaney GymnasiumMackal Field House, Robert P. Arrigan Sailing Pavilion, and Bradford R. Boss Ice Arena.

So run, lift, sail, skate, swim, and spin. Take classes in yoga, Pilates, and just about anything else you can think of. And don’t forget, there’s always the beach.

4. Eat, really well

What’s on the menu? Just about anything you want. URI is famous for its award-winning food, and you’ll have plenty of choices at Mainfare, Butterfield, and the Ram’s Den. But that’s not all—check out all the dining options on campus and be sure to take a look at their hours of operation during Move-in Weekend.

5. Catch a ride

The Rhody Shuttle is a free transportation service with more than 20 stops around campus. All shuttles are ADA accessible and available to visitors, students, faculty, and staff. The shuttles operate Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. until 8 p.m., with service every 8-to-15 minutes.

6. Take in a show

Or a concert, lecture, art exhibit, film, comedy event, theater or musical performance. Check the URI Events calendar for a complete list of activities throughout the school year. Coming soon:
