Dear URI Students,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University of Rhode Island has been selected to participate in the AWS Kiro for Students program, a philanthropic partnership. As a result, currently enrolled URI students can obtain free access to Kiro for one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kiro is an AI-powered software development platform that uses AI agents to assist with coding and other software development tasks. It can be used for activities such as creating software prototypes, working with existing code, and organizing development work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligible students receive 1,000 Kiro credits per month during the one-year program period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get access<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Visit the Kiro for Students<\/a> site.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Sign in or create a Kiro account using your uri.edu<\/a> email address. Kiro currently supports account creation using Google, GitHub, or AWS Builder ID.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Complete the brief student-status verification process through SheerID, AWS\u2019s verification partner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Once your enrollment is verified, you can begin using Kiro.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    There is no payment required from you to obtain the student benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As with any AI tool, students should follow the expectations and policies of their courses, instructors, and the University when using AI-assisted tools for academic work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Resources and information<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    URI has developed a number of resources to support the University community in understanding and using AI thoughtfully and responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Developed through collaboration across the URI community, the URI Academic Affairs AI Task Force Report 2026 highlights progress and offers recommendations for the thoughtful and responsible use of artificial intelligence across teaching, research, and University operations.     Information Technology Services provides resources to ensure AI is used securely, ethically, and responsibly to reflect the University’s values around transparency, fairness, and accountability.     If you have trouble verifying your student status\u2014for example, if your enrollment cannot be confirmed or you encounter an issue uploading documentation\u2014contact the SheerID help center<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
