\n\t\tMiriam Hospital VP to answer questions about

\n\u2018the informed patient\u2019 during <\/p>\n


\nKINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 October 15, 2008 \u2013 Rebecca Burke, senior vice president of patient services and chief nursing officer at The Miriam Hospital, will answer questions and discuss \u201cthe informed patient\u201d — how to get the best possible hospital care — during an online chat Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n


\n\tSince receiving her bachelor\u2019s degree in nursing from URI in 1976, Burke has been dedicated to patient care. As a senior vice-president of patient services at Miriam since 1999, Burke has collaborated with URI to develop a bachelor\u2019s degree program at the hospital. The program was designed to help nurses pursue their degrees in a convenient place. This nursing initiative and others put Miriam at the forefront of patient care. Under Burke\u2019s leadership, The Miriam\u2019s Department of Nursing was awarded Magnet status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for the third time in March 2006. <\/p>\n


\n\tBurke is the 2003 recipient of the URI College of Nursing Alumni Award and a 2007 recipient of the URI Distinguished Achievement Dean\u2019s List Award. She lives in Barrington. <\/p>\n


\n\tA service of the URI Division of University Advancement\u2019s electronic communications program, online chats are free and open to the public and are accessible through the URI website. <\/p>\n


\n\tTo enter the chat, go to http:\/\/advance.uri.edu\/chats for instructions. Participants may submit questions in advance, but the chat will not begin until the scheduled date and time. Thirty minutes is the total time allotted for the chat. A full transcript will be posted to the University\u2019s website once the chat has been completed. \n\tURI\u2019s online Chats, which began in September 2004, have featured sessions with such alumni as Tom Mulligan, Los Angeles Times senior correspondent discussing the Iraq war, and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ross Kauffman talking about the making of Born into Brothels, as well as with URI administrators, faculty and coaches. <\/p>\n


\n\tThe chats are made possible through the cooperation of the URI Athletics Department and College Sports Online, hosts of the GoRhody.com website. <\/p>\n
