{"id":88846,"date":"2023-09-27T13:15:24","date_gmt":"2023-09-27T13:15:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/?p=88846"},"modified":"2023-09-27T13:15:24","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T13:15:24","slug":"media-advisory-new-uri-symposium-to-showcase-maritime-programs-and-career-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2023\/09\/media-advisory-new-uri-symposium-to-showcase-maritime-programs-and-career-opportunities\/","title":{"rendered":"MEDIA ADVISORY: New URI symposium to showcase maritime programs and career opportunities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KINGSTON, R.I. \u2013 Sept. 27, 2023 \u2013 Students from the University of Rhode Island, Community College of Rhode Island, high schools, and veterans from across the state will have the opportunity on <strong>Friday, Sept. 29<\/strong>, to learn about sea service missions, career paths, as well as career opportunities through URI\u2019s maritime degree programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/veterans\/about\/seaservicessymposium\/\">Informational exhibits<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/veterans\/about\/seaservicessymposium\/\">speaking program<\/a>, featuring URI President Marc Parlange and keynote addresses by Mary Landy, retired rear admiral of the Coast Guard and a URI alumna; Richard \u201cDick\u201d West, retired rear admiral of the Navy and member of the URI Graduate School of Oceanography Dean\u2019s Advisory Council; and Vincent Patton III, retired master chief petty officer of the Coast Guard; will be part of URI\u2019s first Sea Services Symposium on the Kingston Campus Quadrangle and in Edwards Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two of the many displays on the Quad will be Coast Guard Station Point Judith\u2019s 29-foot rapid response boat and the Marine Corps\u2019 Enhanced Marketing Vehicle, which will give participants a chance to shoot in a laser firing range and test their skills in a flight simulator.
