Research interests include women and public discourse, especially 19th century women's rights discourse and women and constitutive discourse.
Dr. Derbyshire has been at URI since 1987. Teaching interests include gender and communication, contemporary rhetorical criticism, feminist theory, and diversity.
Harrington School of Communication and Media Lecturer, Dr. Samara Anarbaeva, presents her paper exploring the construction of Second Life avatar's identity in terms of race, gender, and fashion.
Ian Reyes, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of
Communication Studies, was instrumental in establishing a new
