Dr. Agnes Doody is the senior member of Communication Studies. She joind the URI faculty in 1958 and became the first chair of the department in 1967 (Department of Speech). During her tenure as chair, graduate programs in Audiology and Speech Pathology were intitiated. She served as debate coach, as the chair of the Faculty Senate, as a member of the Dean's Advisory Committee and as chair of the Commission on Undergraduate Education among many other campus activities. Dr. Doody's areas of expertise include conflict resolution, intercultural communication, rhetoric and public address, business and professional communication, leadership and public speaking. Dr. Doody is the recipient of the URI Teaching Excellence Award (1980), the URI-EMBA Teaching Excellence Award (1990), the Teachers of Teaching Recognition from the National Communication Association (1994), and the Edward R. Tufts Award for Distinguished Service in Teaching from the New England School of Banking, Williams College (2000). Dr. Doody has earned certificates in advanced study from Harvard University School of Law (Negotiation and Mediation) and from the Institute of Intercultural Communication. She enjoys travel, photography, gardening and reading when she finds time for her own special interests. |
