Public Relations Program

Welcome! Thank you for your interest in the Public Relations major, a cooperative offering through the Department of Communication Studies and the Department of Journalism. Students earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations by applying for the major, or they may declare a minor. You can declare the major when you enter URI or while in University College, or apply later. Public Relations is exploding with opportunities for exciting career paths as the field takes on a global character, and as it encompasses increasing public service social content.

With a liberal arts focus, this program provides students with the necessary skills for a successful career in Public Relations. We emphasize rigorous, effective writing skills throughout the course of study. There will be many opportunities to enhance your public speaking and journalistic skills. You will also develop professional competency in analytical methods, including research techniques and the strategies and tactics of an effective public relations campaign.

I encourage interested students to carefully review the details of this major as outlined on this web site. I would be very happy to meet with any student to discuss the requirements of the Public Relations major.

Best wishes!
