LSC 535: Public Library Services to Children and Young Adults

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Public library services to children and young adults,
with emphasis on the development of programs to meet library goals and
objectives.
OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Define goals, objectives, and ethics of public library services to
children and young adults (1, 2, 3*);
- Locate, select, and evaluate current research and practical literature on
library services to youth (13);
- Identify and analyze the information needs of the youth departments'
constituents (10, 11);
- Identify and locate resources (in the library and elsewhere) best suited
for meeting such needs (14, 19, 20);
- Design and evaluate programs, networks, and other strategies to increase
the public library's usefulness and appeal to children and young adults (10,
12, 14, 15); and
- Communicate departmental objectives, needs, and services to
administrators, funding agents, colleagues, and users (7, 8, 16).

Outcomes.
