The University of Rhode Island currently offers a Minor in Mandarin Chinese Language.  In order to complete the minor, student must complete 18 credits total in Chinese language, 12 of which must be at the 200-level or higher.

 

Courswork currently offered includes:

 

  • Chinese 101: Beginning Chinese I

  • Chinese 102: Beginning Chinese II

  • Chinese 103: Intermediate Chinese I

  • Chinese 104: Intermediate Chinese II

  • Chinese 205-206: Composition & Conversation

  • Chinese 305-306: Advanced Composition & Conversation

 

The beginning level focuses on: Fundamentals of grammar and pronunciation, exercises in reading, writing, and conversation.

 

The intermediate level focuses on: Development of facility in reading narrative and expository prose; exercises in grammar, listening comprehension, and speaking.

 

Chinese Interational Engineering Program (IEP) students must also complete a 6-month professional internship in China, for which they earn six credits total for CHN 315 & CHN 316.

 

Students from any major who wish to accelerate their learning and achieve a professional level of Mandarin proficiency should consider applying to the Chinese Language Flagship Program
