The History of Music and Music Education in Rhode Island Collection

University of Rhode Island Department of Music

Introduction

The collection was started in 1992 when graduate students enrolled in Foundations of Music Education were assigned a research paper on some aspect of Rhode Island's history of music education. The project has since moved to another course, Research in Music, and has expanded. Papers included in the collection are no longer limited to music education but include any aspect of music.
The collection can be viewed on computers at URI in the Fine Arts Computer Lab and in the Department of Music Listening Lab. Library users may print a copy of a paper there. More information on the collection will eventually be available at this website.
The list of possible subjects for future research continues to grow. Rhode Island has had an impact on music and music education in America since colonial times. We can be proud of the rich heritage we are privileged to pass along to future musicians and music educators. By researching our history we stand as a link between past and future.
