Amelanchier arborea

Serviceberry

A small tree or multi-stemmed shrub. Dark green leaves are fuzzy grey beneath. Small white flowers open in early spring along with leaves. Very small purplish black fruits are edible and attractive to birds. Good autumn leaf color. Prefers moist acidic soil, will tolerate somewhat wet and somewhat dry sites, full to partial sun. Native to RI. 15-25' x 15-25'.
