Common Alder

Thicket forming multi-stemmed shrub with finely serrated dark green leaves and shiny gray brown bark. Similar to A. Rugosa . Tolerates wet to saturated soils and is able to fix atmospheric nitrogen. Full to partial sun. Native to RI. 8-12' x 6-12'.
