  • Jose Amador gave an invited talk entitled "Ecosystem services provided by turfgrass and landscape plantings" as part of a symposium on urban soils at the Joint Meeting of the Society of Nematologists and Soil Ecology Society in Burlington, VT.
  • Jessie Dyer presented a poster entitled "Are we fooling ourselves? The role of eelgrass and subaqueous soils in the persistence of fecal entercocci." at the annual conference of the Soil and Water Conservation Society in Dearborn, MI. The poster was based on her Honors project work.

  • Jose Amador presented a seminar entitled "Earthworms are Friendly Ecosystem Engineers. Right?" at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI.
  • "As the Worm Turns: A Brief Glance at the Lowly Earthworm" a month-long lobby exhibit in the URI library, was put together by the LSEM in cooperation with librarian Mimi Keefe.

  • Alumni and friends of the SEML gathered at Casey's Grill and Bar to say goodbye to Josef Gorres, who will leave for a tenure-track faculty appointment in the Dept. of Plant and Soil Science at the University of Vermont this fall.
  • Congratulations to John Richard BS'02 MS'08 for the successful defense of his M.S. thesis, "Fate of ammonium in aerated and conventional septic system leachfield soil using stable nitrogen isotope tracer techniques".
  • Joe Fetter gave a presentation on his thesis research on the effects of squid-based fertilizers on turf ecosystems at the annual URI Turf Field Day.
