At meeting No. 374 held November 16, 2001, the Graduate Council
considered and approved the following curricular matters which are
now submitted to the Faculty Senate for information or confirmation
as indicated.

A. College of Arts and Sciences
1. Department of Languages
a. Add (New):
GER 585 Seminar in German Studies 1-3 Topics in German literature
and civilization. (Sem) May be repeated with different topics. Pre:
Graduate standing or permission of instructor.
2. Department of Physics
a. Change:
PHY 525 Statistical Physics I &endash; change description to
read:
Equilibrium thermodynamics. Thermodynamics of phase transitions.
Elements of kinetic theory. Statistical ensembles and partition
functions. Classical and quantum equilibrium statistical mechanics.
PHY 580 Condensed Matter Physics I &endash; change description
and prerequisite to read:
Drude and Sommerfiled theories. Crystal lattices and symmetries.
Bragg scattering. Properties and calculation of electron spectra.
Fermi surfaces of metals. Electrons in magnetic field. De Haas
&endash; van Alphen effect and Phonons. Electron-phonon interaction.

agency, nongovernmental organization, or private firm as part of the
requirements of the Master of Environmental Science and Management
degree program. (Practicum) Pre: enrollment in MESM degree program.
EVS 598 Professional Master's Research 3 Independent
investigation to satisfy research requirement for Master of
Environmental Science and Management degree. Substantial paper
required. (Independent Study) Pre: enrollment in MESM degree program.
