CURRICULAR REPORT FROM THE GRADUATE COUNCIL TO THE FACULTY SENATE:  REPORT NO. 2005-2006-1

At meeting No. 404 held September 30, 2005, the Graduate Council considered and approved the following curricular matters which are now submitted to the Faculty Senate for information or confirmation as indicated.
        
I. Matters of Information
A. College of Environmental and Life Sciences
1.  Department of Plant Sciences
a. Changes:        
PLS 540 Diseases of Turf & Ornamentals – change in prerequisite to read:
PLS 540 Diseases of Turf & Ornamentals (3)
Disease diagnosis, epidemiology and control measures of common turf and ornamental diseases found in the Northeast United States.  (Lec. 3) Pre: PLS200 or PLS 332.

PLS 542 Advanced Turf Management – change in prerequisite to read:
PLS 542 Advanced Turf Management (3)
Establishment and maintenance practices for specialty turfgrass areas (golf course, athletic fields and parks) including design and construction specifications and budget management.  (Lec. 3) Pre: PLS341 and PLS 440 or permission of instructor.

PLS 571 Plant Improvement – change in prerequisite to read:
PLS 571 Plant Improvement (4)
Traditional breeding techniques and methodologies used for germplasm development and enhancement.  Plant cell and tissue culture methodologies as they relate to the improvement of plant varieties through biotechnology.  (Lec. 3, Lab. 1) Offered alternate years.  Pre: PLS 250 and PLS 215, or permission of instructor.
2. Department of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics
a. New Course:
EVS 610X Multidisciplinary Problem Solving in Coastal Ecosystems (3)
Focus on integrated research/policy in estuarine, watershed and fisheries research through case studies emphasizing the integration of policy and science in coastal management.  Methodology will stress work in multidisciplinary teams framed in humanities perspectives.  (Lec/Lab).
3. Department of Natural Resources Science
a. New Course:
NRS 545X Invasive Species Research, Management and Policy (3)
This course is designed to provide students with an overview of the major invasive alien species issues in the research, management and policy arenas.  (Lec 3).
B. College of Arts and Sciences
1. Department of Psychology
a. Changes:        
PSY 550 Operant Analysis of Behavior – change in title
PSY 550 Behavior Analysis and Change (3)
Introduction to the principles of operant conditioning with emphasis on the use of these principles in the analysis and change of behavior in real-life settings such as schools and families.  (Lec. 3)  In alternate years.
