Mission Statement
The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Center at The University of Rhode Island strives to create a welcoming and safe environment for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Prioritizing around dimensions of education, support, and advocacy, the Center works directly with students, faculty, staff, and community members to provide meaningful programs and services.
The Welcome Project
The Welcome Project is a URI GLBT Center sponsored program developed to promote inclusion by providing educational outreach to University departments, organizations, groups, and residence halls seeking to improve the campus climate by eliminating heterosexism, homophobia, and transphobia.For information, please contact:

GLBTIQQ Symposium
Each year the GLBT Center organizes and presents the Annual URI Symposium on GLBTIQQ issues. The Spring of 2009 will be the occassion of our 15th symposium. Many opportunities exist for student, faculty, staff, and community involvement.

- In conjunction with the 14th Symposium, the GLBT Center, URI Hillel, and URI Galleries hosted Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals, a travelling exhibit from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Conversation Groups
Facilitated conversation groups are held every week throughout the academic year, on Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. in Adams Hall, Room 111 (GLBT Center). Groups are always open to all University students and interested people over the age of 18.
Conversation groups engage a range of topics which encourage discussion in a safe and friendly environment. Participants are also invited to initiate discussion about topics they believe to be of interest and importance.

Out and Proud Film Series
The Out and Proud Film Series features selections highlighting GLBTIQQ people and perspectives. The films are selected by students and Center staff with the intent to inform, illuminate, create dialogue, and entertain. Films are presented in the GLBT Center according to the posted schedule. All films are free and open to everyone.

Gay Bingo
Gay Bingo is a fund-raising social sponsored by AIDS Project Rhode Island in support of people
living with HIV/AIDS. The third Thursday of each month during the academic year, students and others carpool from the GLBT Center to attend this lively evening of fun. For more specific information check out AIDS Project Rhode Island's website by clicking here.
