International Study
The fashion industry is operating in an increasingly global environment, and the TMD department is leading the way in providing its students with a wide range of opportunities for international experiences that will better prepare them for the world that awaits them when they graduate.
- A double major in TMD and a "fashion" language. This opportunity has been developed for both French and Italian. Students follow the two curricula and with careful planning can complete both degrees in four years. A semester abroad is recommended, and internships in those countries are being developed. You can visit the French and Italian "language" part of the curriculum.

- Summer study at the Universite de la Mode in Lyon, France. Each day the students listen to lectures, visit museums, or go on field trips. Lyon is home to a still vibrant silk industry, a major textile museum, shoe and hat museums, and art museums. It is also near the Beaujolais wine country.
- Study Abroad at the American Intercontinental University in London. Many TMD students spend a semester in London: they can also study during the summer in Paris or Florence through AIU. AIU donated $1000 for a scholarship to a TMD student for study in Spring 2007. Many other study abroad experiences exist and can be found through the Study Abroad Office at URI.
- The winter fashion study tour of London and Paris takes place each year in early January, and is led by a member of the faculty. You can see the story of the '06 tour with Abby Lillethun, and the '07 tour led by Linda Welters
