The University of Rhode Island (URI) offers its students the opportunity to study in more than 200 affiliated study abroad programs in over 40 different countries. Through these programs students can develop some of the skills needed to compete in the global market place while pursuing life-changing personal experiences, as well as fulfilling required academic program components at URI. Here are a few of the options available to URI students:

One-to-One International Exchange Programs
Based on availability, this program option allows students from educational institutions in different countries to pay expenses to their respective home campus and then switch places for a pre-determined amount of time.

URI maintains one-to-one exchanges in Korea, France, Germany, México, Canada, England, Spain and Japan.

One-Way Study Abroad Programs
These programs offer an opportunity to outgoing students only. Participants generally pay a program fee.

URI-affiliated Study Abroad Programs include the American Institute for Foreign Study, InterStudy, Academic Programs International, AustraLearn and Denmark's International Study Program.

Consortia Programs
Consortia Programs permit URI students access to international programs offered by other institutions that belong to the same consortium.

URI is a consortial member of the College Consortium for International Study, the Council for International Educational Exchange and the New England Land Grant Group.

International Internships
As the emphasis on gaining practical experience prior to graduation increases, so does students' interest in internships. Students at URI can access many different types of international internships through the Office of International Education.

Non-Affiliated Programs
On occasion URI students may seek out a non-affiliated program because it offers a certain geographic destination or academic area that is not otherwise available through any of our many affiliations. Before selecting a non-affiliated program, however, students should read "Information for URI Students Who Wish to Study Abroad on Non-affiliated Study Abroad Programs" to learn about selecting this option.

URI Summer Programs
The University of Rhode Island (URI) offers students to opportunity to study in URI faculty led summer study abroad programs in various locations overseas. These programs are designed to allow students to earn three to six credits towards their URI or other college/university degree.
