Historical Information

The origin of the recordings in this collection is unknown. Members of the faculty in the Rhode Island State College School of Agriculture recorded the lectures from 1948 through 1950. The lectures may have been used as part of daily radio broadcasts by the Cooperative Extension Service of the College that aired on WPRO radio's Extension Farm Chat radio service.

The collection consists of twenty-two 78 rpm phonograph records of lectures on agricultural subjects made between August 10, 1948 and June 9, 1950 by professors in the Agricultural School at Rhode Island State College.

Acquisitions Information

It is not known when the records were acquired by the University Archives.

Processing Information

The records were processed in October 2007 by David Sherman. The phonograph records had been stored in brittle paper sleeves, and had dirt and some inactive mold on the discs. The discs were cleaned using RCA D4+ record cleaning solution, and were re-housed in polyethylene sleeves.

Contains twenty-two 78 rpm phonograph records of lectures on various agricultural subjects by professors in the Agricultural School at Rhode Island State College.

Arrangement

The recordings are arranged chronologically. Some discs contain two recordings whose dates encompass the dates of other discs; in those cases the discs are arranged by the date of the earliest recording. One disc at the end of the series cannot be dated with certainty.
