Department of Music

The URI Department of Music is one of the most vibrant and exciting at the University, dedicated to excellence in performance, teaching, and scholarship. Students from around the country come here for:

We offer professional music degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We offer the advantages of a small school combined with big-school opportunities for performance and study.

  • With an average of 170 students majoring in music, we take an individual interest in each student’s personal and professional path to success.
  • Our faculty of nearly 40 dedicated artists and scholars have wide-ranging experience and really care about our students.
  • Each year, more than 200 concerts and recitals are given by our faculty, students, guest artists, and departmental ensembles..
We host several festivals in addition to our renowned concert series:

The department serves as a cultural center for the local community, the state and the region. Established over 50 years ago, we are fully accredited by all three of the major national accrediting organizations.
