The Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies offers various types of training depending on the needs of the organizations, agencies, schools, or community groups we are serving. Presentations, workshops, credit courses, continuing professional development, youth programs, and certification training can be arranged. Fees vary depending on the nature and length of the trainings, the number of participants, and the number of trainers required.
The following are options for trainings offered in nonviolent conflict reconciliation through the Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies. The purpose of these trainings is to develop nonviolent leaders, expose people to various nonviolent concepts, and to develop schools that would be helpful in cultivating a nonviolent society. These trainings can also be used in learning strategies to institutionalize nonviolence in various organizations.
• ONE DAY PRESENTATION•
This course is a condensed version of the 2 Day Core, based on the needs of the participants/agency. It allows trainers to provide a specific audience with a glimpse of our work at the Center, the definition of nonviolence, and the basic tenants of the philosophy of Dr.Martin Luther King, Jr.
• TWO DAY CORE - Introduction to Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation•
This two day workshop gives participants a comprehensive introduction to Martin Luther King, Jr.'s philosophy and strategy of nonviolence.
The seminar is useful for a variety of individuals, including those who work with young people, people who respond to conflict situations, and people who experience different levels of violence in their daily lives. It provides a framework for conflict reconciliation, management, mediation, and arbitration. The workshop is facilitated by two or more certified Kingian Nonviolence Trainers, who have completed Level I Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation training, or higher.

In addition, participants are provided with a briefing booklet and supplementary handout materials. Trainers may choose to present participants with video presentations and/or additional reading assignments. This course can be used for incentive credits.
• 3 - 4 DAY PROFESSIONAL SEMINARS•
This course is for participants from the same profession (i.e.: nurses, police departments, corporations, mental health organizations, teachers, etc). The first 2 days cover the same information provided by the 2-Day Core, listed above. The following days address issues specific to the profession. The goal is to develop strategies to address the specific professional needs of the organization.
Professional Development credits may be arranged for this type of training.
• LEVEL I CERTIFICATION TRAINING•
This course is offered through an intensive 2 week Summer Institute, which normally takes place at the URI Kingston Campus. Alternatively, hours can be arranged at off-campus locations. Up to six credit hours are available for this program. This course prepares participants to teach the introductory 2-Day Core. *Note: Level I Training may also be received in the form of a course at the University. Presently PSY478. The next Level I course will be held in the Spring of 2012.*
• LEVEL II ADVANCED CERTIFICATION TRAINING•
After participants have completed Level I training, and have experienced leading the training the 2-Day Core at least once, the Level II certification is offered. This includes independent analysis of organizing, technical skills for mobilization, and evaluation, intense study, and analysis of nonviolent movements for social change. Up to 12 credits are available for this program. All class fees will be negotiated based on the number of participants.

The Center conducts training at the national level at the request of school systems, community
organizations, colleges and universities. These trainings are typically one and two day introductory core trainings based on the Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation training curriculum.
