College of Nursing

This is not your standard nursing program.

URI's College of Nursing goes well beyond what you might expect. First of all, you'll find the individual attention you'd get at a smaller university and the unique clinical experiences of a much larger institution. You'll have plenty of opportunities, if you want them, for cross-discipline work with engineering, psychology, business, nutrition and more. Our faculty are as renowned for their research and inventions as they are for excellence in primary care, community service, and workforce development.

Fact is, from unique courses (like thanatology) and one-of-a-kind programs (we're pioneering the only Doctor of Nursing Practice program in Rhode Island), to unusual clinical practice settings (and traditional ones too), "smart classrooms," and simulation labs, our goal is to graduate nurses at all levels who are ready to respond to the needs of our changing health care system - whether that's in teaching, research, clinical care, policy or administration.

Of course you'll learn great clinical care here, but you'll also be inspired to identify and solve problems of human health through research, discovery, invention, and cross-discipline enterprise. Welcome to the College of Nursing at URI. You're on you way to one of the most exciting, rewarding, and respected careers in the world.
