Post Master's Options


Psychiatric Mental Health:
Nurses who already have a master's degree in nursing may pursue advanced preparation in psychiatric mental health nursing. A minimum of 18 credits (NUR 511, 512, 515, 516, 517, and 519) is required of all students. Additional coursework may also be required based on the student's knowledge and clinical experience in this specialty.

Gerontological Clinical Specialist:
Nurses who have a master's degree in nursing may pursue advanced preparation in gerontology. Prerequisite courses (NUR 503, 508, 535, 582) and specialty courses (NUR 555, 556, 557, 558 and 590) and a minimum of 500 clinical hours will qualify to take the ANCC certification exam.

Family Nurse Practitioner:
Nurses who have a a master's degree in nursing may pursue advanced preparation in primary health care. A minimum of 28 credits (NUR 503, 504, 535, 582, 531, 532, 533, 534, and 590) is required to qualify to take the ANCC certification exam.
