Educational programs in thanatology at the University of Rhode Island are multifaceted. The study of thanatology is integrated throughout the undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing, and is often chosen by students from other disciplines as well.

Interdisciplinary Minor in Thanatology

Students in nursing and other disciplines who are interested in a basic understanding of death, dying, and grief may take a series of courses that qualify them for an interdisciplinary minor in thanatology. More >>

Thanatology Certificate Program

An interdisciplinary post-baccalaureate certificate program is available for those who wish to prepare for a career in thanatology, enhance their knowledge and skills in caring for the dying and their loved ones, and or prepare for national certification in thanatology. Graduate students are encouraged to conduct research studies in thanatology. More >>

 

Weyker Thanatology Endowment

The Thanatology program is financially supported in part by the Weyker Endowment in Thanatology which was given by Dr. Lawrence Weyker in memory of his wife Miriam. The purpose of the endowment is to improve the care of the dying and bereaved through education and research.
