Welcome from the Director of Public Safety
Welcome to the University of Rhode Island Public Safety Department web site. Our site is designed to provide information about our group and numerous facts and suggestions to make your academic experience a safer one.
The University is fortunate to have a highly professional organization consisting of fully empowered Police Officers, Communications personnel, unsworn Security Officers, and civilian support staff on duty at all times to respond to routine and emergency calls.
In our system Police, Security, Parking and Communications are semi-autonomous units within the Public Safety Umbrella. Each has a leader responsible for the Unit’s performance and delivery of services to the University.
The entire Department is always ready to respond to calls for service, as well as taking proactive steps to keep individuals and property safe. Public Safety works closely with all other University departments to help provide the very best living and learning environment possible.
I encourage you to visit the various web pages of the specific Units that further elaborate the specific services provided.
While no campus is ever a completely safe haven, URI has dedicated and committed itself to the safety of our campus population as our priority. The University is only a microcosm of greater society; by working together, we make it a better place for all of us.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can answer any of your questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Robert F. Drapeau, Ph.D.
Director of Public Safety
