Admission to the Program
Admission to the program is based on the applicant's interest in the field of public administration, scholastic record, professional letters of recommendation, and performance on one of the following exams: GRE, GMAT, or MAT. The entrance exam is waived for applicants holding an advanced degree, including the J.D. The University of Rhode Island Feinstein College of Continuing Education offers test preparation workshops for each of these exams.
Individuals who are presently employed in government occupations at all levels or by nonprofit agencies and organizations are encouraged to apply, as are all who are considering a career in government and nonprofit service. Application to the Program is easily accomplished on-line be going to www.uri.edu/gsadmis.
Once admitted most part-time MPA students can finish the degree within 24-36 months. Full-time students can complete the degree with 18 months. Part time students pay the applicable URI College of Continuing Education graduate tuition and fees on a course by course basis. For courses taken at Rhode Island College students pay the applicable RIC graduate tuition and fees. For full time students the full-time URI tuition and fees are charged unless the student is taking a RIC course. Limited financial aid is available.
