As a higher education institution, the University of Rhode Island recognizes its unique opportunity to make significant contributions toward a more sustainable society through teaching, research and outreach. Our vision for sustainability on campus is one where all members of the community are engaged in the pursuit of practices and principles toward a sustainable economy, a healthy ecosystem, and an environmentally just society.
The University is honored to have been featured in The Princeton Review's "Guide to Green Colleges" in the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and the 2014 edition. Most recently, URI achieved the top green rating score in the state of all the Rhode Island colleges that participated in the survey.
The Sustainability @ URI website is intended to act as a portal to the University's sustainability initiatives, and to celebrate what individuals and groups on campus are doing to help us move toward our carbon neutrality goals. We encourage colleges, schools, and administrative departments across the University to contact us and share their information – whether it’s a new class that’s being offered, research being done, or an opportunity to participate in a campus event related to sustainability.
