About the Energy Center
One of the most exciting and important challenges of the 21st century is to ensure a sustainable and dependable energy supply. The subject impacts every facet of society from our economic and environmental health to the quality of life in our homes and communities. To address this compelling and high profile issue, the University has formed the URI Energy Center.
Established in the summer of 2007 by representatives from the CELS Kathleen M. Mallon Outreach Center and the URI Chemistry Department, URI EC serves as a formal structure for coordinating and integrating the complex array of research, outreach, and educational efforts at the University. Through URI EC, a cross-disciplinary team of URI researchers, graduate and undergraduate students and outreach specialists will work in partnership with national, state and local governments, energy providers and the business community to develop locally-based solutions to global energy issues.
Not only does the partnership build upon existing research and outreach strengths at URI, it is also used as a catalyst for research in the following areas of interest: |
