Bio
JARED SIMS began to study piano and saxophone at a young age in his home state of Virginia. Now based in Boston, he performs on all of the saxophones, as well as clarinet and flute. He has toured throughout the United States and in Europe and India. Sims was a founding member of the jazz/rock quartet Miracle Orchestra, awarded "Best of Boston 1996," who toured from 1995 through 2001.

Today, Sims regularly performs with the Jared Sims Trio as heard on the recording Acoustic Shadow. This project features Sims' tenor saxophone playing and his original jazz organ trio compositions. In addition, he has a group called Phat Beats -n- Noize, which fuses his angular alto saxophone soloing and laptop computer work with live hip hop beats and a live DJ.

His longest association is with the jazz group Blueprint Project with guitarist Eric Hofbauer and pianist Tyson Rogers. They have performed and toured together for more than a decade and have made four studio recordings. Their third, featuring Cecil McBee and Matt Wilson, and their fourth, with Dutch percussionist Han Bennink, each earned 4-stars from Downbeat magazine.

Sims has also performed and recorded with Mango Blue, a Boston-based Afro-Latin band and performs regularly with the organ funk band Akashic Record, a staple of the New England club scene. He has recorded and performed with Toussaint Liberator and Buru Style, an electrifying reggae/soul band, and is also a member of the adventurous jazz group Dead Cat Bounce, which has won several Boston Phoenix Jazz Polls and grants from Chamber Music America.

Sims has played Cleveland's Tri-C Jazz Festival, Flint (Michigan) Jazz Festival, New Haven (Connecticut) Jazz Festival and Northsea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. He has appeared as leader or sideman on more than thirty different albums crossing several genres and his studio work has been featured on national and international television as well as several popular video games. He has performed with such diverse artists as pianist Ran Blake, rapper Matisyahu, DJ Logic, bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers), Artie Shaw Band, and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra.

Currently a guest artist/teacher at URI, Sims has taught at the University of New Hampshire and Southern New Hampshire University. In addition to his active performance and teaching schedule, he has recently earned a DMA in performance at Boston University.
