URI to host Green Boats workshop to advance sustainability of ships, boats, ports, April 8-9

WHO: URI Graduate School of Oceanography Dean Bruce Corliss, URI Assistant Professor Austin Becker, and boat builders, marine architects, Navy and cruise industry representatives, operators of research and commercial ships, and others interested in the sustainability of ships, boats and ports.


WHAT: A workshop to promote the sustainability of ships, boats and ports, with the aim of facilitating discussions that will lead to greater care of the oceans by the marine transportation industries. Speakers will discuss sustainable ship design, the use of biofuels, ship energy audits, hybrid power systems, sustainability in the cruise industry, the recycling of fiberglass boats, and more. The event is sponsored by Eleventh Hour Racing.


WHEN: Tuesday, April 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, April 9 from 9 a.m. to noon.


WHERE: The Coastal Institute auditorium at the URI Narragansett Bay Campus, South Ferry Road, Narragansett.
