Relationship running a little rough?
Come to URI for a Valentine's 'tune-up'
KINGSTON, R.I. -- February 4, 2000-- Has your relationship been misfiring
lately? Is it overheating or freezing up?
Just in time for Valentine's Day, the University of Rhode Island Marriage
and Family Therapy Program is sponsoring the free "Tune up your relationship
for Valentine's Day." Any couples wishing to get their relationship
running more smoothly may participate.
Counselors will be on hand Friday, Feb. 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday,
Feb. 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. to meet with couples to discuss such possible problems
as communication styles and approaches to arguments. No appointment is necessary.
Couples may simply drop by the URI Transition Center at Lower College Road
and Route 138. The program is free and open to the public.
"This is our fifth year offering the Relationship Tune-ups,"
said Dale Blumen, coordinator of the URI Family Therapy Clinic. "People
find it an enjoyable experience, and they leave with handouts that describe
their relationship styles and that list useful ways to increase positives
in their relationships."
If couples decide they need further counseling, they can pick up materials
describing the counseling programs offered by the URI Marriage and Family
Therapy Program, or referrals may be made to other counselors in the community.
For questions, call the URI Family Therapy Clinic at 874-5956.
