KINGSTON, R.I. -- February 17, 2000 -- The University of Rhode Island Physical Therapy Program will hold its 10th "Spring Into Motion" road race and walk Saturday, April 8 at 10 a.m.

Adults may register for the race for $12, and students with identification may register for $10 until March 27. On race day, participants can register at 8 a.m. for $15. Proceeds benefit student clinical research in the URI Physical Therapy Program.

The 5-mile race/3-mile walk will start near the URI tennis courts at Keaney Road and Route 138. For further information, call 401-874-4066.

The event will include a post-race health screening and massage, T-shirts for the first 200 entrants, refreshments, prizes, and a raffle. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female runners overall, top male and female runners in each age group, and the top male and female walkers. The raffle grand prize will be two round trip tickets anywhere in the continental United States donated by Southwest Airlines. Other major sponsors are Visine, Ban de Soleil, Plax, Bengay, and Barbasol.

Last year's race attracted more than 300 runners and walkers.

This year's research projects, the beneficiaries of the race, focus on the muscle physiology of trained athletes, quality of life of persons with disabilities, comparison of fitness equipment and the effects of pressure as a therapeutic technique.
