Curator of ancient sculpture to lecture at URI

KINGSTON, R.I. -- September 24, 2002 -- Mette Moltesen, curator of the renowned collection of Greek and Roman sculptures at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptothek in Copenhagen, Denmark, will visit the University of Rhode Island to lecture and talk with students on Tuesday, October 8, at 5 p.m. in the Cherry Auditorium of the Chester Kirk Center at URI’s Kingston Campus.

Moltesen’s discussion about collecting ancient sculptures and the art market in late 19th Century Rome will be free and open to the public. An engaging speaker, she is an internationally known scholar of Greek and Roman sculpture.

The curator’s visit to Rhode Island includes a related program called "Taking It Apart and Putting It Together: Changing Approaches to Exhibiting Ancient Sculpture," at the RISD Museum, Program Gallery on October 6, at 2:30 p.m. For more information regarding the event at RISD, call 454-6507 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, or visit

This program has been supported, in part, by a grant from the Rhode Island Committee for the Humanities, Wellesley College, URI’s Department of Art and Honors Program, the RISD Museum, and an anonymous donor.
