URI wants all to show their spirit for Rhody Pride Day,
KINGSTON, R.I. -- March 1, 1999 -- Members of the University of Rhode
Island community will be breaking out their URI hats, sweatshirts, and their
athletic uniforms to celebrate Rhody Pride Day on Wednesday, March 10.
By donning URI gear students, faculty, and staff will be supporting their
University, good health, and a safe spring break.
A group of students called the "Pride Patrol, designated by special
shirts, will be looking for students and staff decked out in URI fashion.
Numerous prizes will be given out to those spotted in Rhody attire. More
than 150 prizes will be given away, including a 10 percent discount at the
University Spirit (in the Emporium) if participants mention Rhody Pride
Day at the time of purchase.
The Pride Patrol will be visiting the following locations:
9 a.m. to 11 a.m."Independence Hall, Mackal Field House, Keaney
Gym, Library, Chafee Social Science Center, White Hall, Davis Hall, and
the Multicultural Center.
Noon to 2 p.m."Memorial Union, Ram,s Den, Carlotti, Roosevelt Hall,
Roger Williams Dining Hall, and Butterfield Dining Hall.
In addition, the University will ask it,s students to make a pledge to
be safe during Spring break. In the Memorial Union, Booth 4, from 9 a.m.
to 4p.m. students will be asked to participate and fill out small cards
pledging tonot drink and drive, wear a seat belt, and to avoid risky situations.
All who sign the pledges will be entered into a raffle for a grand prize.
Prizes will be awarded for the wackiest, wildest, and weirdest URI apparel
and for pledges for safe living during spring break. Area restaurants, theaters,
and specialty shops throughout the area will provide prizes.
Rhody Pride Day is sponsored by URI Substance Abuse Services, Office
of Student Life, University Spirit, Student Alumni Association, and URI
