WinterSchool has something for all green industry members

KINGSTON, R.I. -- February 12, 2004 -- Calling all green industry members and advanced Master Gardeners! If you want to brush up on your horticultural knowledge and/or review for a certification exam, the GreenShare WinterSchool Training Program has just what you’re looking for.

The program will take place at the University Club at the University of Rhode Island's Kingston campus on Feb. 24-26 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

The three-day course will cover horticultural fundamentals and economically and environmentally sound approaches to landscape management by URI and industry experts. Participants will also get a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of landscape management, including turf and tree care and the latest developments in insect and disease management. A resource room with professional books, educational displays, and horticultural products will be available.

Following the training program, there will be opportunities to take six certification and licensing exams including those for the RI Certified Horticulturist, RI Arborist license, URI GreenShare Certification, and Pesticide Application.

The fee for the program is $200, which includes morning coffee, lunches, and a WinterSchool certificate upon completion. One-day options are available on Feb. 25 for Commercial Pesticide Applicators and Feb. 26 for Certified Horticulturists who require recertification credits. Costs for one-day certification is $80. Fees are payable to URI upon registration, and refunds minus a $50 deposit will be given if cancellation is received three working days before the course begins.

The GreenShare WinterSchool is co-sponsored by the University of Rhode Island College of the Environment and Life Sciences, Cooperative Extension Education Center, the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association, and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
