KINGSTON, R.I. -- April 19, 2005 -- The Narragansett-University of Rhode Island Coalition will hold its annual Narragansett Spring cleanup in celebration of Earth Day on Saturday April 23. URI students and administrators, town police, local residents and businesses will work together to spruce up the Narragansett neighborhoods of Eastward Look, Point Judith and Bonnet Shores.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at Bonnet Shores and noon to 3 p.m. at Eastward Look and the Village of Point Judith. The rain date has been set for Sunday, April 24.

The neighborhood cleanup has been supported by members of the Narragansett-URI Coalition formed in 2000, which meets monthly to discuss issues supporting the Coalition’s mission of “building a community of mutual respect.” The coalition consists of URI students and administrators, real estate agents, town council members, neighborhood association representatives, police officers, local business owners and more. The URI Democrats, fraternities and sororities are also involved.

The first 100 participants will receive free T-shirts from URI and neighborhood residents will provide tables and chairs for supplies and refreshments. Local real estate agents are assisting in the promotion of this event and Dunkin Donuts will supply coffee and doughnuts to the volunteers.

Those interested can contact the URI Commuter Housing Office at 874-2828 or visit the Coalition website at www.uri.edu/alcohol/coalition.
